A Balinese-style house in Santa Monica, California, that combines beauty and sustainability has gone into contract just four days after hitting the market for $9.5 million.
Built in 2009 by LEED-certified builder Sorensen Architects, the house features lush gardens, waterfalls, split-faced limestone walls, solid teak and other organic materials throughout. It has over 4,700 square feet of living space with four bedrooms and five bathrooms, according to the listing with Shelton Wilder of Sotheby’s International Realty.
Ms. Wilder listed the property last week and got an offer in escrow within four days, she said.
“In the high-end market, buyers are looking for something very special and unique,” she said.
The home, set back in the Santa Monica Canyon and just two blocks from the beach, features a retractable skylight, a custom Italian glass elevator, terrazzo floors, Basalt tile bathrooms, laser-cut steel doors and windows, and a fireplace adorned with Indonesian coral-accents.
“It features all the elements, earth, air, fire and water meet one another,” she said, “Everything is in the highest finishes with many organic touches.”
Outdoors, there is a limestone spa, a koi pond and a two-car garage, surrounded by lush greenery.
“The moment you walk in the vintage monastery gate, you are transported to an ambrosial, luxury hotel in Bali,” Ms. Wilder said.
The owner, who could not be immediately reached for comment, bought the property in 2015 for more than $4 million, property records show.
