Located in the heart of London’s St. John’s Wood, this detached Art Deco house has six bedrooms, five reception rooms and a large backyard garden with an in-ground pool. “What’s nice is that the house is quite different from the traditional Victorian architecture, which you see so much of in London,” says listing agent Marc Schneiderman of Arlington Residential. “There are very few purist Art Deco homes like this one.”

The home was originally built in 1938, and the current owners recently refurbished the house from top to bottom. “The garden is very beautiful and to have one this size that includes a heated outdoor pool is impressive,” Mr. Schneiderman said. “Although London isn’t typically known for its joyous weather, we did have the most amazing summer. So during the lockdown period, all of our clients who had outdoor swimming pools were quite pleased to have one.”

Part of the refurbishment included transforming the entire first floor into a principal bedroom suite. “It not only has a great bedroom, but also a massive en-suite bathroom, a study/gym area, two large intercommunicating walk-in dressing rooms and access to a terrace overlooking the garden,” Mr. Schneiderman said. “The scale and the size of the suite is very impressive.”

Indeed the main floor occupies the same amount of space as the four bedrooms on the second floor—each of which has its own en-suite bathroom. The lower floor houses an art gallery/playroom, which is currently set up as a studio leading into a gallery. This floor also has a small bedroom with an en-suite bathroom and a separate cloakroom.

“The home would be ideal for a large family, since it has six bedrooms as well as the playroom and the pool,” Mr. Schneiderman said. “The area has a very international clientele, but there is also a very defined local market of people who tend to stay in the neighborhood even if they need a larger or a smaller home.”
