Gucci teams up with historic English printmakers and store Liberty of London to create pieces for the Fall Winter 2020 collection. Liberty London’s archival floral prints bring new interpretations of Gucci classics and are presented in special packaging for online exclusive styles. With its collection of fine ornaments, fabrics and objets d’art from around the world, Liberty of London founded in 1875 invoked social change in interior design and dress to the extent that the Art Nouveau period in Italy is called ‘Liberty Style’. The collaboration started with a research of Liberty’s archives, where Alessandro Michele sought out little-used small floral prints in a way to convey a message of a memory from the past into the present—a leitmotif of the creative director’s design vision.
Seen in diverse pieces, including accessories, a padded jacket, headbands Liberty of London’s prints remind those who look at them of a memory. Designed with a full canvas construction, the single-breasted wool jacket is introduced within an exclusive collaboration for Fall Winter 2020, and features light blue, green and light yellow floral print by Liberty London on navy wool mohair blend.
The Gucci Horsebit 1955 top handle bag is introduced within an exclusive collaboration as well. Floral printed leather defines the top handle shape, with the printed phrase ‘Gucci Liberty’ in honor of the special collaboration. Garnished with light pink and light blue floral print on ivory leather, the Gucci Horsebit 1955 shoulder bag features a special mechanism that adjusts the length of the shoulder strap so it can be carried on one shoulder or cross body.
