Not long after buying a house in Los Angeles in 2007, the actress Hilary Swank added a 16-seat movie theater, lounge and concession stand. Her goal, she said, was to watch movies “correctly, the way they are meant to be seen.” That included snacks: the concession stand has an antique popcorn machine, candy and beer.
Now someone else will get the opportunity to watch films in the space. Having recently moved to Colorado, Ms. Swank, 47, is listing the hacienda-style house in Pacific Palisades for $10.5 million, according to listing agent Zach Goldsmith of Hilton & Hyland.
The gated and walled compound sits on a bluff with ocean views from almost every room, Mr. Goldsmith said. Set on roughly a third of an acre, the house is approximately 6,700 square feet with five bedrooms and multiple sets of french doors to the outside. A detached garage has a sixth bedroom that doubles as an office. The house was previously listed in 2012 and 2013 for $9.495 million. Ms. Swank said she contemplated selling then because at the time she was living in France. “Then I was like, ‘I don’t think I’m going to actually be in France forever,’ so I pulled it off the market,” she said.
The decision to sell now, she said, is bittersweet. Ms. Swank said she purchased property in Colorado in 2016, then moved there last year with her husband, Philip Schneider, when much of the country was in lockdown. A longtime advocate for animal rescue, Ms. Swank said there is more space there for her five dogs, two parrots and one horse.
“We’re looking to get a lot more rescues when we have the time,” she said. “We have a nice ranch now that we can bring ‘em all to.”
