It’s off to the races at Zaha Hadid’s One Thousand Museum in Miami, where a 4,600-square-foot apartment has hit the market for $7.25 million.
The four-bedroom, five-and-a-half bathroom residence is owned by speedboat racing scion, Fred Kiekhaefer, and his wife, Carol, according to records with PropertyShark. Mr. Kiekhaefer’s father founded Mercury Racing, a Wisconsin-based company that makes high-performance engines for boats, and he served as the company’s president until 2013. They bought the condo in 2019 for $5.3 million, records show.
“When we bought at 1000Museum, we fell for the architecture, but living there, loved the service culture of the staff even more. The gym, sky lounge, beach club and courtesy cars were beneficial amenities. Our unit’s view of Government Cut is simply spectacular,” Mr. Kiekhaefer said, referring to the man-made shipping channel between Miami Beach and Fisher Island.
Mr. Kiekhaefer now works on his own engine designs as an independent consultant at K-Lab Design Works in Castle Rock, Colorado.
“Unfortunately for me (a lifelong boating enthusiast), my wife accepted a full time position in Colorado, not Miami—so our move proved temporary,” he continued. “That’s the only reason we’re selling.”
Overlooking the Atlantic Ocean, the 62-story 1000 Museum is known for its dramatic design by the late Pritzker Prize-winning architect. It was the first residential tower Hadid designed in the western Hemisphere, and one of her last designs before she died in 2016 at the age of 65.
“The sellers really wanted to take advantage of the architecture of the building and they specifically chose this unit based on where the exoskeleton fell on the terrace,” listing agent Elena Bluntzer with ONE Sotheby’s International Realty said in an email. “The curves and shapes flow fluidly and make for a gorgeous sight.”
In addition to the far-reaching views, the apartment features an open floor plan, walls of glass and terraces framed by parts of the tower’s exoskeleton, listing photos show. There’s also a sleek kitchen with black Tao quartz countertops, Gaggenau appliances and wine storage next to the formal dining area.
The main bedroom suite has a private patio and a bathroom with a soaking tub overlooking the water. Each bathroom has quartz countertops, white lacquer cabinets and marble walls, the listing said.
Building amenities include a helipad on the roof, a two-story sky lounge, an eighth-floor pool, a spa and fitness center, art galleries, a private theater, garden areas and other event spaces.
In January, Lucy Guo, the 27-year-old founder of San Francisco-based Backend Capital, a venture capital fund, and Scale AI, which provides data for artificial intelligence applications, bought a home at One Thousand Museum for $6.7 million, Mansion Global reported.
“One Thousand Museum remains a landmark in Miami and will continue to hold a level of prestige for years to come,” Ms. Bluntzer said. “With only a few units remaining and the fast pace of the market, I expect this condo to move quickly.”
