A grand Southern estate owned by billionaire businessman and HCA Healthcare founder Tom Frist Jr. came on the market Thursday asking $50 million. The home is not only the most expensive listing on the market in Nashville, but across Tennessee, too, records show.
The five-bedroom, 19,800-square-foot home sits on a nearly 50-acre lot, and was designed by New York-based architects Ferguson & Shamamian, according to marketing materials. The entrance is framed by a fountain and a colonnaded porch, and the main level features a variety of gracious entertaining spaces with high ceilings, large windows and abundant natural light.
A dramatic living room is designed with high, arched ceilings with wooden beams, as well as a stone fireplace and floor-to-ceiling windows and glass doors that open onto the home’s outdoor space, according to listing photos.
In addition to a formal dining room, which also opens out onto the property’s grounds, a spacious country kitchen features island seating. The home’s extensive outdoor space includes a covered patio surrounded by arched brick walls, as well as another colonnaded porch in the back of the house, and a large deck surrounding an in-ground backyard pool.
Mr. Frist, 83, who was not available for comment, has been ranked by Forbes as the wealthiest person in Tennessee. He co-founded HCA Healthcare, a for-profit healthcare facilities operator, with his father, Thomas Frist Sr., in 1968.
Mr. Frist and his late wife, Patricia, who died in 2021, first purchased the property for $2.2 million in 1993, according to property records. The couple engaged in extensive philanthropic work, and through their charitable organization The Frist Foundation were instrumental in the founding of Nashiville’s Frist Museum, which opened in 2001.
